I'm very happy to welcome our wonderful new stud Quadruple Grand Champion Mystic Melody Wulfgar. As you can see he is a beautiful classic tabby with great boning and an impeccable pedigree. Plus he has a sweet and very loving disposition and we are looking forward to having many beautiful Wulfgar babies.

We are very thankful Judith at Mystic Melody for this amazing guy. We hope to take him for his first walk in the snow tomorrow. Pictures to follow!!

Tron's Send Off

As you can see, the troop was jumping when they sent off Tron to his new home in Edmonton. As usual, Tron was his quiet self throughout the gathering, not knowing he had two days of driving on his way to his new home. Thanks to our good neighbours Tim and Geri, Tron travelled to Radium and on to Calgary where his new owner Patricia picked him then took him to his forever home in Edmonton. The word is he and his new owner Pat have bonded and are to a fine start...

Murlyka First Prize

First Prize (Pritzy) is the big man in this litter. He got the name because he was the first born of the litter - although we do think he has the potential to win a few prizes. He is a cuddly guy who melts into your petting and begins to purr up a storm. He is a lot like me - a big old lover boy.

Murlyka Folklore (Lori)

This is lovely Lori - her formal name is Folklore from the beautiful American bred rose below.

Lori, the kitten, is a spitfire of a girl - she is always on the move, running, wrestling with her brothers, pestering her sisters, tearing up and down the cat towers, chasing her toys, there is no time for this girl to slow down. That is until she drops and then she out like a light.

Introducing Murlyka Frederic Mistral

You might wonder why the picture of the old dude and then a picture of a pretty pink rose when this is a kitten blog.

Bear with us - it is my strange way of introducing my boy Fred (or Frederic Mistral to be formal). At Murlyka all our kittens are named after roses that are then planted in our gardens - that way when the kittens have gone to their new homes we have a beautiful rose to remind us of their time with us. The old dude is here because Fred's rose is named after a French poet and this what he looks like. So our Fred is obviously much cuter than the dude and definitely more handsome than rose. He's a very sweet guy with the "wild" Siberian look that we love.

Here is a picture of our Sena (now Kody) from litter E with his new owner Diane at a cat show in Halifax. As you can see at five months of age he is a big boy who takes after his dad. He did very well winning 8 finals out of 10 rings - including a best kitten. He even won the best Halloween costume dressed up as Puss n Boots. He loved being shown - so he should have a great career ahead of him.

Everyone has their eyes open (except when sleeping) and they are starting to teeter around on their little legs! You can see from the picture they are starting to look more like individual kittens vs. generic fat little sausages.

Congratulations Elina!

Elina went to her first show last weekend in Edmonton. She is only 4 months old but she held her own against some good competition and came away with a Best Long Hair kitten and 3 other finals. Here you see her being judged by Pam Barrett who gave her the Best Kitten Final. Pam loved her boning and musculature --- She comes by it very honestly - her Daddy (me) is called the Tank or the Cinderblock and her maternal grandfather - SGC Sibirsky Russian Bear is even bigger than me. Thanks to Pam and all the other judges for recognizing a Siberian beauty!!

Litter F has arrived

KD (Kobe's Dotchka - daughter of Kobe and Marta Sibaris) had her first litter of 6 gorgeous mackerel tabby kittens on Sept 18/19. She did a great job and delivered them all within 2 hours. She's quite protective still - so we think there are 2 boys and 4 girls. This may change once we get a better look at them. They are all eating well and getting fat little tummies!

A little too soon to tell if any of them will have my great personality, etc but even if they take after their mom instead of me, it won't be a bad thing.

My Fourth BIrthday!

Today's my birthday and as you can see I'm pretty mellow about it. Humans tend to get bent out of shape about getting older - but not me. Keep life simple and you too can be mellow.

You just need some good scratchers - cardboard is my favorite - it allows me to be very creative - there are a million ways to shred it.

I also love the stretch I get from this cedar scratcher.

Then you need a good source of grass - to chew!

And last but not least don't take yourself too seriously.

Cookie in a bag

Kittens #1 and #4 (Murlyka Dainty Bess and Murlyka Distant Drums) are doing very well in their New Westminister home with Kaoru and Wade. Kaoru gave them very appropriate Japanese names. Since they are forest cats they have been named after trees - #1 is Kaede (maple tree) and # 4 is Kurumi (walnut tree).

As you can see they are best buddies and love to sleep in boxes.

Charly (Dublin Bay) in his new home!

Here is another one of my grandsons - He's very handsome and looks much like his mother Roxie. His registered name is Dublin Bay and his home name is Charly. He lives with Sibylle and Arne in Pemberton BC. He is very, very well loved and a very lucky boy.

Sasha/Maddie Owning the House

Well its been almost 2 weeks since my son Sasha and his daughter (with Prekrasne Roxie) Maddie moved to their new home with Marlene and Ken. Being the great Siberians they are - it hasn't taken long for them to make themselves at home.

Marlene reports that they now "own" the house. Here is a picture of them in one of the bathrooms they have taken over....

Dream Come True's Colors

I'm known for my kittens' warm brown colorings...but Dream Come True (Maddie) and my grand daughter (parents Prekrasne Roxie Hart and Murlyka Alexandre) has the warmest brown coloring I've seen. It was so warm that judges at Maddie's first cat show were sure that she was a torbie. However since there are no reds in either side of the family - they had to acknowledge she's a very warm brown.

Interestingly - her coloring has just got warmer and warmer since she was about 3 months old. We look forward to seeing her in her mature coat and if she maintains these red tones.

Roxie's boys are stars!

Sorry for the long hiatus! Things have been very busy here - the typist is teaching this fall and she's commuting for 12 hours a week. She's says either I get fed and have my litter box cleaned or we work on the blog - so its a no brainer for me! Food and cuddles win every time.

Litter D Update

Well five of the litter D kittens have been in their new homes for about a week. Reports are they are settling in nicely and have charmed their new owners totally with their big purrs and their nonstop antics.

Kittens #2 and #3 (Now named Darcey Bussell and Disco Tango) were the first to leave home. Disco didn't miss a step and was ready to rock as soon as they moved in with Tia-Toni and Adam in Kelowna. Darcey being a little more sensitive was very glad to have his big brother along to help with his transition.

Well its that bittersweet time. The kittens from Litter D have been neutered/spayed and this week they will begin leaving for their new homes. Its bitter because we will definitely miss this lively and adorable crew. It is sweet because they are going to wonderful homes and 2 sets of kittens are going as pairs so they won't be lonely. They seem to know something is up - today we found them all sleeping together (maybe it also has something to do with the colder weather) but I thought I'd share the pictures with you. Poor little Didi (#4) is on the bottom and you can't see can only see Disco's (#3) ears but you can see they are all fine, fine Siberians.

The Sky Tower

The girls were rather jealous of my outdoor run - so the builder made a little space for them.

He made a beautiful run just outside their door but the typist thought the Siberians need places to get

up high and enjoy the view - so this is what the builder came up with - There are three longs runs suspended from the ceiling like the one Miisu is laying on.

They connect with gang planks for the kittens to walk or as they get braver they simply jump from one to another. Room for the whole litter of kittens and all the girls to hang out and look down on the rest of the world.

I gotta say the builder is a pretty handy guy to for a cat to hang around with.

So this is what retirement looks like - my first love Anya and our daughter Alina (Ali) now leave in Vernon, BC with 5 adoring family members. Here they are enjoying the view from the window - you can clearly see the difference between a mackerel tabby (left) and a classic tabby (right) in this picture. They both have great coats and beautiful eyes. We miss them here at Murlyka but are very happy that they have found such a wonderful new family to pamper them.

Seven is a beautiful little girl who looks a lot like her mom. She is a mackerel tabby with high white markings including a white shoulder necklace and chevron on her back. She is finished off with a white tip on her tail and dark left elbow patch.

They don't come any sweeter than seven - she loves to cuddle in beside you and purr.

One of these kittens is not like the others - one of these kittens is not the same (Sesame Street). Well the kitten that isn't like the others is the beautiful classic girl Five. She is the only one of the litter that takes after our side of the family - more specifically me! with her beautiful classic markings and no white. She is a solid, stocky girl whose coat is getting thicker and fluffier everyday (that she gets from her Daddy Sasha). She also gets her sweet sad expression from her Dad. She loves to eat, play and check things out. She will be going with Sasha (when he retires) to live with Marlene and Ken - who are very lucky to get two of my most beautiful offspring.

As you can see she started out cute and just got cuter and cuter. Four is a black classic tabby with white little girl. Her asymmetrical facial markings make her quite distinctive. She is quite the little princess who happens to have a huge "meow" when encouraging the typist to get the food ready more quickly and the loudest purr when scratched behind her ears. Despite her princess appearance she is a playful girl who loves to wrestle.

He is a hefty boy - He was the largest kitten at birth - a mere 5 gms heavier than the next kitten. Now he is about 100 gms heavier than the others. He likes to eat and sleep and as you can see from the pictures above he also likes to play. He loves his ears scratched and will cuddle close to get some loving.

Introducing "Two"

Hi Sorry for the delay in introducing "Two" but the typist has misplaced the camera cord. Who knows what she'll lose next.

Anyway these pictures are a few days old but you get a sense of what a lovely mackerel tabby and white boy Two is. He has a tiny white tip on his tail and an even tinier (about 20 white hairs) spot on his left shoulder. He and Three look a lot alike but when looking at them from above Two's white makes a necklace across his shoulders.

We are always wondering what will Two get up too next - as he's always on the go - checking out the every toy, every one who comes in the room and what's to eat, what's to chase. He loves being scratched and especially loves running up to the camera to see how it works.

Introducing Murlyka Litter D Kitten One

It is my great pleasure to introduce ONE - The typist hopes to get their registered names soon but at the moment they are still One, Two, etc. in the order they were born.

ONE is a black classic tabby with white and our female rendition of a little Charlie Chaplin with her black nose. She is a fearless little girl and just as she was the first to enter the world, she was the first to climb out of the birthing basket, the first to drink milk, the first to eat big cat food, etc. She is our little ground breaker - where One goes the others follow.

As you can see from the picture above One is also a food critic - who didn't think much of the last glop the typist tried to feed them.

My New House

For the past couple of weeks I've been enjoying my new house. Its perfect for a guy like me - it has my own private catrun, lots of ventilation for summer but has a large insulated and heated room for winter. It's got a great view overlooking the pond. It also has some chairs so the typist can hang out with me in the shade.

Its even got a great little peephole so I can keep my eyes on the ducks!

The best part - I think my fancy new house helped me get a date! The lovely Odetta Sibaris of Windy Acres (Her typist is Carolee Penner - a new breeder in Manitoba) came to visit and I did my best to insure there will kittens in August.

Things have been rather hectic around here! We have seven little kittens (my lovely grandchildren) and Roxie and Sasha's children. They are now 4 weeks old and starting to get very, very busy. Miisu Hanging Out

Miisu has settled in our household although she and Roxie aren't best buddies - they do tolerate each other and in the mornings have fun playing sparkle ball together (provided each of them get their own sparkle balls). As you can see from the picture you can see that Miisu makes herself at home.

Welcome to Amante's Queen Harlequin

'Miisu' (her home name) traveled with the typist all the way from Finland. Speaking from experience - sitting under a airplane seat for 3 flights totally 15 hours in the air (not to mention all the hours in transit) is no mean feat for any cat! But like me (a sturdy Finnish Cat), Miisu came through it well. She has been here about ten days and has been settling in nicely.

As you can see she is a colorful and beautiful girl who is very athletic. Her name comes from her harlequin color (hence her registered name) - which means she is mostly white with large patches of color. Miisu's patches are orange (red) and classic tabby which also make her a torbie cat. She does have a bit of "Torbietude". Some people interpret this to be temperamental - I think of it more of having opinions and being able to voice them! She is very affectionate and gentle kitten who loves to come for a pet then be off on her explorations!

Its great to have another Finnish cat living here at Murlyka. I guess once you know one Finn Siberian you want to know more.

Prekrasne Roxie Hart of Murlyka made her show debut last month. We just received these pictures. She wasn't very happy with the loud noises at the but did show off her beautiful self for this judge. She won two finals as a kitten in a very strong group of kittens. Well done Roxie!

Murlyka Belle Story becomes a champion

Murlyka Belle Story (Chloe) attended her first cat show two weeks ago. Here are some pictures her owner Katharine took. I'm going to brag now - isn't she a beauty! She looks a lot like her mother Anya but has my classic coloring and good boning!

We are pleased she became a TICA champion - she is only 9 mons old and was competing against huge 5 year male cats. - see her beside the Maine Coon below.

Although we live on Sunshine Bay - in winter sunshine is a rare commodity. So I take every opportunity to catch some rays. Today was another good day for sunbathing and the rock garden just outside the house is the perfect spot.

Another highlight of the day was some visitors - Marie-Helene and her daughter and grandkids - its so nice to meet new people and lap up the compliments.

Spring Sunshine

It's springtime in the Kootenays. The sun has been shining and the snow is melting quickly.
I've been out enjoying the sunshine, lying on the rocks and soaking up the rays!

Don't know if you're familiar with the great children's books of Sandra Boynton (e.g But not the hippopotamus). She's a quirky writer (books, cards and songs) and illustrator. The typist says that in my full winter coat I look like a Sandra Boynton Cat. What do you think?
I don't remember ever using a telephone though - I leave all those chores to the typist.

I started by watching the typist shovel the walks and then to make sure she got a real workout I took her on an obstacle course through the trees! We are in the midst of a snowfall warning so she should gets lots of opportunties for shovelling!

We've been having our first skiffs of snow here. Although it was warm this morning, I did my daily exploration of the yard across a snow covered field.
The rest of the cats aren't so adventurous - they tend to want to be upstairs close to the fireplace and aren't interested in poking their noses out the door, let alone walking in the snow.
This is a picture of Ali and her daughter Charlotte (soon to be called Tinker in her new home). They love the Dream Curl and spend a good portion of the day playing or sleeping on it.

Great News! The newest member of cattery has just arrived after her long journey from Arizona. Despite over 12 hours in transit to Vancouver she came out her carrier purring and happy to be here. The next day she had another plane ride to join us here in Nelson - she was so laid back that she slept in the typist'`s lap in the airport lounge waiting for the next leg of her journey. And as you can see she's a beauty! She's a very feisty little girl who nothing fazes and who has made herself right at home. We are so happy to have her here.

My first grandchildren have finally graduated from 'boy' and 'girl' to their official Murlyka cattery names. The typist names the kittens after her favorite roses and each kitten born at Murlyka cattery will have their namesake rose planted in our garden. I suggested that we name them after different grasses (my favorite thing in the garden) but that was vetoed.

So it is my pleasure to announce Murlyka Charlotte, one of the most beautiful David Austin roses. Its a warm beauty just like our little girl.

The little boy in this litter is named after Charles Austin - a warm apricot rose.

Our little Austin is the warmest little fellow himself - full of purrs and cuddles!

Our babies are growing up. Belle Story is 16 weeks old and is going to her new home with Katharine and Aaron tomorrow. Murlyka Litter C kittens are now exploring outside their nest. Belle thinks they are her new toy. Belle loves to chase her own tail - she now seems equally fascinated with the tails of her neice and nephew. The kittens aren't so sure - its hard enough walking without someone trying to grab your tail all the time.

My daughter Ali is very fussy about where her kittens live and who gets to see them. As a result the newest litter is now on their third or maybe their fourth home. Here you can see she's tucked them into a little cave - its very cozy when Mom is in with them. As the kittens are just over 3 weeks and are becoming more mobile everyday - its probably a good spot for them to begin to explore. We are trying to choose names for our Litter C roses and we hope to post the results soon.

Bonnie settling into her new home

Aren't these great pictures? Our dear Bonnie (now called Mango) is settling well into her new home in Orleans, ON (close to Ottawa). Christine sent us these beautiful pictures of our spunky girl. There are two older cats in her new house so her family is very carefully introducing them to each other.

Now if Bonnie-Mango takes after her old daddy she'll get along with any cat... I'll update you soon....

Our dear little Belle Story will leaving for Vancouver this weekend. Its a bittersweet time - we are happy they are going to such great homes but we will miss them greatly!

I'm a Granpa!

Murlyka Alina (my first born) had her first litter on Monday night. She had one big classic tabby boy (maybe he'll take after granpa) and one not quite so big but just as beautiful mackerel tabby girl. The boy is in the top picture and the girl is posing with her Granma Anya - who just couldn't leave the kittens alone (You know what first time granmas can be like). The kittens and mom are doing fine. They came just in time because our Murlyka B litter will be leaving in the next few weeks - so we won't be without kittens. Those kittens keep you young!

The Window Kittens!!!!

Belle and Bonnie love to sit on the window above the typist's desk. They have a great view of the pond from here and of course get to assist with editing, plus getting frequent head scratches.

In case you're wondering -
I'm taking things easy in the late days of summer - mostly sleeping in the shade, chasing a few grasshoppers and of course eating grass- my favorite snack. But on the work side I'm helping with the pond design and site location for my new house. I'm getting very excited about the new digs!!! - We'll profile my new house in a later post once its built. It even has a guest room for visiting cats!

Happy 1st Birthday Sasha and Ali!

Hard to believe that only a year ago Anya and I had our first litter of kittens. But the calender doesn't lie and I'm proud to say in the past year Alexandre (Sasha) and Alina (Ali) have grown into beautiful cats. The great news is they are still here with us at Murlyka so I get to enjoy them everyday.

Ali has become a doting older sister to the litter B girls. Here she is grooming Belle And as an equal opportunity cleaner - here she is cleaning Bonnie.
Sasha prefers the more manly pursuits of chasing butterflies and grasshoppers. Pictures to follow.

9 weeks old - the fun continues!

Yesterday was a day of firsts. Their adventures included- their first car trip, their first visit to the vet and their first vaccinations.
They were a little shy at first but soon warmed up in the vet offiice. Bonnie weighed in a 1.18 kg (2.6 lbs) and Belle at 1.12 (2.47 lbs). However the vet noted that Bonnie had a very, very full bladder as usually the kittens are only about an oz (30 gms) apart in weight.

Bonnie and Belle turned 9 weeks old today. My beautiful babies are having a lot of fun. They have now taken over the upstairs and keep everyone amused. I even got in this week's photos although through the window. That darn typist said I could not come in because my feet were muddy. The typist can be such a party pooper sometimes!

Hi there - after a week of rain and great thunderstorms - I like them if I'm safe in my house - not so much if I get caught in the rain- we are having some real (or at least typical July weather ) of 30 degrees or so.
The kittens spend most of their days in the relative cool of the cat room. As you can see from the latest movie I made (they are doing all the things big cats do now). Playing, cleaning and sleeping - whoops I forgot eating!!! I'll get pictures of that in the next blog.

The B litter Roses have bloomed

Well the kittens are almost 4 weeks old and they have been given their official registered names. They will be given "home" names by their new owners but on their registration papers they will officially be Murlyka Bonica and Murlyka Belle Story also known here as Bonnie and Belle. Now you might wonder where the names came from. Certainly not from me - the typist asked me to name my favorite things - but she didn't think that eating, head bunting or sleeping were good names for kittens. She said one of her favorite things are roses - so the kittens are named after some of her favorite roses that start with B.
Bonica is a pink rose bred in France. It's described as delightful and known for its health and constitution. She has at least 10 Bonica roses in her garden and now we have a healthy Bonica kitten. The Rose:

Belle Story is an English Rose named after one of the first nursing sisters to join Britain's Royal Navy in 1864. Besides being a beautiful and rather unique rose, I think the typist liked the nursing connection.

Well the lazy days of summer are here and today I had a great time chasing butterflies, rolling in the dirt and sleeping away the morning in the old hazel nut tree.

Now I know you really are much more interested in the kittens - so here are their latest photos. Big continues to be much more cooperative when taking pictures. Little just wants to be on the move and takes off when the camera appears and her closeups look like a little fox slinky away in the forest. They both are tottering around but still like to stay close to Mom and their nest.

Our babies are now 10 days old and their eyes are almost completely open. They are growing quickly and have more than doubled their birthweights - no longer the tiny little newborns of just last week.

And beautiful girls they are! The typist says they are lacking the necessary male accoutrement (I think she means the boy bits). Whatever!!! They are absolutely perfect to their mother and I. "Little" is a real firecracker - hissing and taking off as soon as she is placed down for a photo. The typist complains that's she just like me- ruining photos by coming straight towards the camera as fast as she can! I think that's pretty smart - it means she has control of the situation. "Big "is more demure but also she's not pushover - she lets everyone know what she wants.......

See how the nice warm brown color is starting to come out in both their coats. They should have the lovely brown coats of myself and the siblings.

The Arrival of "Little" and "Big"

I'm proud to announce that "Little and Big" arrived last night by c-section. Mother Anya and babies are doing fine. Their interim names come from their birth weights - Big was 127 gms and Little was 106 gms (this is a pretty average weight for a kitten - so Big is pretty big). Today on a different scale at 12 hours old they were 137 and 118 gms respectively - both of them are growing quickly. Big is the dark mackerel Tabby in the first picture and Little in the second picture takes after me and is a classic tabby. The pictures really don't do them justice but hopefully as they get bigger the typist will improve in her photographic skills. The typist and vets think they are boys but its a bit early to know for sure.

Busy, busy, busy

In my last post some people felt I was being too hard on Tazmin because she just lounges around all day. So I thought I show what I've been up to. The Boss and I built these retaining walls while Tazmin slept in the sun. The Boss actually did most of the work - but he couldn't have done without my supervision and encouragement. So you can see we hard working mountain cats just aren't beautiful - we're productive too

On the kitten front - we're all still waiting and waiting and waiting some more. Anya is quite calm about it all - while the typist and I are eager for them to be born.

Now that it's summer and the deer fence is completed Sasha and I have been helping in the garden. The deer fence keeps the deer and other predators out and keeps we cats safely inside. So we're eager to get outside our regular pens every morning. Here's Sasha begging for his turn in the garden.

Sasha has also been checking on the household faucets - one of his favorite activities. So you can see we mountain cats do work hard!

Good News!!! Bad News!!

Hi Nökö here. First the bad news - Tazmin, who normally lives in Victoria with Silvie, is staying with us while Silvie works on her Masters in Geography at some frozen lake in Sweden. Tazmin is just a little too citified for we mountain cats. She seems to think she runs the show. Take a look at her in this picture -

Doesn't she realize that this is our house and she should show some respect. Instead she hisses and makes a big fuss - so the rest of us have to stay out her way. It's just not fair that she gets to lounge - while the rest of us have our work to do.

The Good News is that Anya is definitely having kittens. Although she's being very secretive about when she will have them. Even the typist isn't sure. Anya says that its very important for a girl to have some secrets and I guess this is one of them.

This is my second daughter Toni - she's lives just down the road but we don't get to see her much - so it was great when the typist brought these photos back. (The typist said I couldn't go with her because I would get into trouble - I said "Who me?"). Anyway, Toni has a great life - she is well loved by Myo and Carol (her new people) and even is well loved by Emma the dog. Couldn't get a good picture of them both together because unlike cool Siberian cats who know how to conduct themselves with dignity and restraint, Emma gets soooo excited when visitors come. Notice the firm hand on Emma's collar!!!

Hi! This is me at 2 weeks old (Way back in May 2007 -picture courtesy of Merja Tolonen, my breeder in Finland). I guess you can see why the typist fell in love with me. The picture below is me at my first cat show - after I became a TICA Champion and just a couple of weeks before I turned 2 years old on April 25, 2009. (Photo Courtesy of Wells Photographic Design). Still cute after all these years!! LOL.

We haven't posted much lately as the typist tried to remove her left thumb with a power tool. She wasn't successful but it has slowed her down some. She's even more clumsy now than usual - can't operate the camera, slow typing, even a bit slow getting our meals on time. We're hoping this improves soon.

Cat Space 9

Excuse the x-ray vision eyes and the dark photo but this is the only picture of me that the typist took at our first cat show. Apparently I became a champion on the first day of the show. I always thought I was a champion but at a cat show it seems to have something to do with being taken in and out of one's cage over and over again. I must admit I did get a little grumpy about having my morning nap interrupted. Sasha got so tired of all the comings and goings he did a face plant in his mat. The judges liked him as he won 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 7th best kitten ribbons.
Some judges liked Ali better than Sasha and she was in 2 finals. Once they even finalled in the same class. (That judge really liked Siberians - good taste don't you think?)

Joyous Occasion

Today was a joyous occasion - the typist moved the couch out of the basement and the cemetary of lost toys was found. There were seven of my favorite plastic spirals, some assorted fleece toys and best of all Sasha's beloved mouse. He was so happy to see it he carried it around the house for most of the evening.
He is very protective of it and made sure none of us tried to harm it.

Sasha and I discovered a great new toy today. The typist says she's had one of these since she was a little kid and loved to play with it on the stairs. Politely Decline

If you're wondering why I'm looking a little tired we just got back from Spokane last night. So to all you cats out there - if anyone asks you to go to Spokane - politely decline. Speaking from experience - going to Spokane which sounds like it could be fun - actually just means far, far, far too much time in to many small spaces. Four to five hours in my carrier during the road trip, then the hotel said - I had to stay in the bathroom when the typist and the spouse were out for dinner and a movie. What fun is that? Can you believe at US customs they confiscated my dry cat food? Then all the typist could find was some canned food that both Anya and I had the good sense to refuse to eat. The next day Anya and I spent the morning at Inland Empire Imaging - nice people but again they wanted me to sit still for 45 mins while they looked at my heart. It was almost a relief to get back in the car for the five hour trip home.
Boy am I glad to be back!

The Vagaries of March Weather

Hard to believe that just yesterday we were basking in the warm March sunshine. Today it warmed up and its been sleeting and snowing all day long - grey, grey, grey and grey. The typist is freting about the weather because tomorrow we are going on a road trip to Spokane to get an echocardiogram. I'm not sure what that is but I'll fill you in when I get back. There is still a lot of commotion in our household. The people doing the plaster and their dogs left on Monday and now the humans are laying the floor upstairs. We've been confined to the cat room during the day while all the work is going on. I think the typist is feeling badly because a new toy arrived.

A New Tower

Greetings from Sunshine Bay - although its anything but sunny today. It's raining so it wasn't hard to convince the typist to update things.

The excitement yesterday was a "new" to us - cat tower.

A lovely Ragdoll named Whisper decided she so many windows and other perches to sit on in her new home that she longer needed this perch. We, of course, are ecstatic with the new tower and you see the crew checking it out. We Sibs like to be in the highest spot possible. More towers mean more of us get to be surveying the world from up high. You can see that Danny (Prekrasne Daniela), although low cat on the totem pole, always finds the toy first. You'll also notice that Anya and her daughter rule the roost. We guys don't have much of a chance!

Lucky there are lots of other towers and perches for the definitely second-in-command males of the household.

Ali & Sasha Six Months Old

Nökö here! We like any reason to celebrate and since Ali & Sasha are officially 6 months old we thought we honor them in today's post.

Not to be a boastful dad - well, maybe just a little boastful- these kitten/teenager cats are something special. They seem to have inherited the best of me (Nökö) and their mother Anya.
Here some photos to show you what I mean.
They are very athletic - both of them excel at clicker training and can't wait to start the agility circuit. Here's Sasha showing off some of his athletic prowess. He's a heavy boned solid guy. Last week he weighed 9.6 lbs (4.4 kg).
Ali is our sultry beauty. She has my classic coloring - and her mother's lovely eyes. She's a heavy boned solid girl (kinda of like me - except for the girl part). She weighed 8 lbs (3.6kg) last week. Here's a closeup! The best part is that even though they are teenagers they are incredibly even tempered and happy cats. They purr all the time and love their people with a passion. They are very creative and are forever finding new games to amuse themselves and their humans.

So wishing Sasha, Ali and our readers all the best on this their six month birthday!

Weighty Issues

Hi all Nökö here!
My breeder, Merja, recently posted (http://siperiankissa.blogspot.com/) some pictures of her N litter being weighed. Those pictures reminded the typist and I of some "weighty" pictures of me back when I reached 4 kg. I was still living in Finland when these pictures were taken (Nov 07) but the typist thought I was a pretty laid back and goofy guy and could hardly wait to bring me home.
What do you think?

Finally The Typist Returns

Hello All. Nökö here!
You may have been wondering why I haven't posted for awhile. Well the typist left for a month in Thailand and although were very well cared for by Les (we nicknamed him Laser Les as he seemed to like playing with the laser light almost as much as we cats), he wasn't much of a typist.

The typist says she thought of us often - apparently there was an island that shared my name - although a little garbled. It was called Koh Noh.
I think the typist was gone so long she forgot my name and the island doesn't look anything like my handsome self.
She did find one cat that stood out from all others in Thailand - Maybe its that new breed ? ?Leopold?

But since she's been home things have been busy here. Did I tell you we're in the midst of building a new house. Normally we have the run of the full house but they are plastering upstairs - so while the workers are here - we spend the day in the cat room. The workers have a dog and a puppy so we had some interesting times in the outdoor cat room watching that crazy puppy hassle the big dog. Below you see Sasha teasing the puppy.

Day in the Life of Sasha

The typist is "on hold" with an airline (which means we have an hour at least ) so we thought we share a typical day for Sasha. He likes to check out the deer as they come down from the mountain to drink at the stream. Today we saw nine - sorry but the typist missed most of them in the picture.
He then waits patiently as typist makes breakfast.
Then its time for some work and some play. He makes sure there is enough toilet paper for the day. Then he checks out the temperature of the typist's bath. Goes in for a closer inspection of the quality of the water.
Then run to the other end of tub to make sure its filling properly Somewhere along the line he fell in -
But as always he took it in stride and happlily dried off.

Then spent some quality time in the chair in front of the fireplace.
Hope you liked the little glimpse into a kitten's busy day.

I just can't get Ali to leave her fireplace - she seems to think snow is for looking out the window at. Hopefully this is just a teenage phase!
So here's a recent picture of her inside the house. She weighs 2.82 kg at 17 weeks. Just a bit smaller than her brother.
As you can see she has a beautiful classic coat - it may someday be as nice as mine.

Since I still can't get my girls to even stick their noses outside the door,
I thought I'd post some more pictures of Sasha enjoying the snow. We're having a huge snowfall now- big white fluffy flakes and we can't see across the lake. Maybe the new snow will convince the girls to come out and I"ll be able to get a picture of Ali in the snow.

Toni will go to her new home after Christmas. There is a new puppy there as well which I'm sure Toni will give a run for her money. I'm happy to report that she'll only a few kilometers away - so we will be able to see her often. Things will be quiet with out her - well quieter as least!

As you can see we've had our first snowfall here in the Kootenay Mountains. I love winter- it's a Siberian cat's favorite time of year. My coat is quite different from how I look in summer and my multi-layered coat helps me cope with the snow and cold. Siberian coats have the added bonus of being hypo-allergenic for some cat lovers who can't have cats but can have Siberians. Which I think is quite wonderful!
Siberians also have large paws, heavy boning, strong muscles and long fur between our toes - all of which helps us travel in snow.

Sasha who has just turned 4 months (weighing in at 3kg or 6.6 lbs) also loves the snow. He isn't quite so happy about the cold as he still has his kitten coat which is not as effective at keeping a hunter warm. But as you can see from the picture below he has beautiful dark markings - so when he does develop his adult coat he should be quite a striking fellow.

Now I must report that the females in my life seem to have a greater preference for lying in the chair in front of the fireplace than playing in the snow.
I'm trying to entice them outside for pictures but so far they are holding firm to the territory beside the fire. I'll post their pictures later.

Three month Birthday

Yesterday the kittens celebrated their three month birthday. They had a great time exploring new things. They especially liked sitting on edge of the tub and helping the typist take a bath. Don't worry- we didn't take any pictures of that little event. :-)
We tried a shot of them together but as they only slow down to sleep- there any only individual portraits to post.

Ali the oldest. She will adding her great looks and size to Murlyka Cattery.

The middle kitten is Sasha. He was in such a hurry to get ready for his picture he was hardly dried off from Mom's cleanup. You can see like most young men he wasn't very happy about being forced to spruce up. Sasha is looking for a good home as a potential stud and show career ahead of him.
Toni is the youngest. She is slightly smaller than the rest but what she lacks in size she makes up for in personality. She is a mighty hunter - she loves finding stray socks which she hides in one of her many lairs. She has a feisty, engaging and loving personality. She is looking for a loving pet home.

Murlyka Alexandre (aka Sasha)

Welcome back! I'd like to formally introduce you to my fine son - known to all as Sasha. He is looking for a breeding/show home. I think he's a very fine fellow and so do all who know him. He is a favorite with visitors because he is very entertaining and friendly.
I'm including some of his kitten pictures shown earlier on the blog to demonstrate how he has matured.
He is also a very mellow fellow - the first to purr when picked up and he is a definite lap cat.

Thunder is exactly what the kittens sound like as they race up and down the halls- hence the name Thunder cats. How three little kittens can sound like a whole herd of horses stampeding is beyond me. They especially sound like this when the typist mentions that food is on the way. They just can't get to their dishes fast enough and end up tripping each other and themselves and sometimes the typist in their hurry. They are definitely little cats now in terms of their appetites.

My babies are also further perfecting their hunting techniques. Toni shows us how to capture the great woolly sock!

Above you see Toni pointing out her grampa Cedi on the computer! I proud to say that my Poppa Cedric Siberian Star is an European Champion. He lives in Helsinki with my Mom and Dad and their typist Merja. I miss them all but its nice to have pictures to remind me of home and to let the kittens know about their fine heritage.

My kittens are getting to the age where they will soon be leaving their homes. Toni is probably going to a family in North Vancouver, while Ali will be remaining at here at Murlyka Cattery.
Sasha is looking for a breeding home - he's a wonderful boy - he has a sweet expression like his Grampa and a very, very mellow temperment. I'll write more about him in my next post.

Welcome Back!

The typist has been away visiting with her mom and other relatives in BC. Although the spouse takes good care of us - I just can't get him to type for me. So hence the long hiatus between posts. The kittens are now 10 weeks today. They are getting very big - with Ali the largest and Sasha close behind (both at 3.5 lbs/ 1570 gms). Toni is going to a bit more petite - more like her mom. Since the kittens are eating more and more solid food and Anya does not have to be on call all the time - I've been recruited to do some kitten sitting. Above you see me trying to keep a eye on them all. No easy task!
As any parent knows children don't always follow directions.
They also demand a lot of attention.
I try to set a good example...
Teaching hygiene. Going for father-son walks...
But with kittens things do happen....
And I think the typist blames me for this - if you notice Anya's ear is in the picture -but she left the scene of the mishap pretty quickly! But I took responsibility for it all and even gave moral support as the typist cleaned up.

On the eve of their 7 week birthday

Greetings! I never thought that 17 months I'd be feeling old but seven week old kittens can do that to you. Everyday this week, they went further, faster, higher and longer. It seems that play, play and more play is the only thing on their calenders.

But tiring as it is - its great fun. Then now run from one end the house to the other and quickly back again. They do stop for food - as you can see from above where they are fueling up for the next set of races.

The typist is visiting her mother for a few weeks so this is a short post.
I've just attached pictures of the kittens - You can see their lovely warm brown colors!
